Room for Growth
Several years ago, our congregation embarked on a project of redevelopment to address the challenge of maintaining an aging building and the desire to create new, flexible, accessible and environmentally sound space more suited to our current ministry. We recently issued a request for expressions of interest and included as one of our requirements space for the Office of the General Council. We received four compelling proposals - the images on this page provides an example of what is possible. (To enlarge an image, simply click on it.)
We feel there are many good reasons for including the General Council offices on the Bloor Street site. Specifically, we believe our proposal:
- Would provide strong visibility to the vibrancy and continued relevance of the United Church of Canada;
- Places our church’s national office within a wonderful neighbourhood in the heart one of the world’s most diverse cities;
- Gives the General Council the opportunity to help design the new, flexible, accessible and environmentally sound space it seeks;
- Presents the opportunity for rich collaboration and deeper understanding between two courts of the church; and
- Offers the General Council a very compelling financial arrangement – an approximate 20% savings compared to its current space.
To learn more about our proposal we would encourage you to read the executive summary and the response we provided to the request for additional information. If you have further questions do not hesitate to contact Michael Hilliard, Chair of the Redevelopment Committee, at mhilliard@live.ca.
We truly look forward to welcoming the General Council and building our new sacred space together.
