Mission and Goals

Bloor Street United Church is a community of Christians celebrating God's loving presence and listening for God's prophetic word.  In the spirit of Jesus, we strive to carry that love and word into the world and warmly welcome all who wish to join us.

Our Mission

We are called to:

Provide an inspiring and visionary centre for worship where we can encounter God.  It is in our faithful response that we help each other to discover, develop and nurture our spirit and faith.

Vigorously share God's love in inclusive partnership with neighbours near and far in pioneering ways.  We try to understand how God speaks to issues of our time and guides us to faithful and courageous action.  When called, we will take leadership, while respecting the right of others to differ.

Exercise imaginative and effective stewardship of our personal, financial and physical resources.

Affirming Statement of our Faith and Action:

Adopted at the Congregational Meeting, February 21, 1995

We believe that all people are created in the image of God and are unconditionally loved by God. All persons are free to enjoy God's gifts of love, joy and intimacy.  We lament injustice done to gay, lesbian and bisexual persons in Church and society.

We, the people of Bloor Street United Church, are committed to creating a community where people of all ages, genders, races, sexual orientations, differing abilities, ethnic backgrounds, and economic circumstances are welcome.  We seek to use the gifts of all persons, regardless of sexual orientation, in every aspect of congregational life, including designated ministry.  We pray for God's spirit to guide us as we work for reconciliation and justice for all persons in both church and society.
